Want an inside look at Tika Sumpter's destination wedding in Cabo at Chileno Bay Resort?Tika Sumpter & Nick James are married! And their destination wedding was boho chic and utterly gorgeous! Do y’all remember when I shared their engagement photos here? I can’t believe we are now celebrating their marriage! Their wedding was also featured as the cover story for Volume V of Brides magazine “ The Destination Wedding Issue”. So exciting right?! To say that I am honored to have captured their day as their wedding photographer, would be an understatement! Their love story is one I will truly always treasure.Tika and Nick met when they were working together on the set of Tyler Perry’s “The Haves and the Have Nots”. The bride credits Perry for playing a major role in her and Nicks's relationship. So, after they said I do, I had to snap a picture of the bride and groom with Tyler Perry! You’ll get to see it down below!I have to admit, that what I especially loved about Tika & Nick’s wedding was, unquestionably, the amount of detail they put into making their day about the experience. Not only for them but for their guests as well!The night before the wedding, the bride and groom spent the night apart. The next morning, Tika took the opportunity to spend this time working out, meditating, writing her vows, and getting in some relaxation at the on-site spa. She wanted to be fully present during the wedding and soak up everything the day had to offer.

Tika and Nick said I do with a wedding ceremony on the beach of Chileno Bay Resort. Guests were encouraged to “pick a seat, not a side”. Their ceremony space was decorated with heaps of pampas grass and creamy neutral florals in shades of pink, peach, and ivory. Tika and Nick then exchanged their handwritten personalized vows full of smiles, laughter, and love. Once they were pronounced husband and wife, we set off to take their portraits. With the ocean as our backdrop and the gorgeous architecture and landscape of the resort, we were able to make some magic!All of a sudden, it was reception time. Tika's main focus when planning their wedding reception was on detail, but in a way that felt uncomplicated while still coming across as beautiful and lush. She worked with her planner to achieve this by using shades of blue inspired by the ocean, creamy florals, and clouds of baby’s breath hanging over the guest's seating! I’m telling y’all, it’s truly as gorgeous as it sounds! Tika and Nick then delighted their guests with libations and delectable bites that were inspired by local flavors. But, the bride still had one more surprise in store for her new husband as well as her guests!! A firework display over the ocean! How amazing is that?! From there, Tika snuck away to slip into her party dress and hit the dance floor with Nick and her beloved friends and family. See every moment, in the photos below!
